Exciting rumors are swirling in the Bitcoin community as Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ali Tamim hints at the possibility of the country entering the world of BTC mining on a grand scale.

Is Iraq Ready to Dive into Bitcoin Mining?

In a recent press conference with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Deputy Prime Minister Tamim highlighted Iraq’s plans to modernize its energy sector and boost its economy. Of particular interest to the Bitcoin community was the government’s focus on capturing flare gas, a renewable energy source that could power Bitcoin mining operations.

Tamim’s commitment to using advanced technologies for environmental sustainability has caught the attention of experts like Joe Kerr, known on X as @Boomstick44. Kerr speculates that Iraq may be gearing up to embrace BTC mining, drawing connections between Tamim’s statements and the potential integration of Bitcoin into the Iraqi economy.

Beyond the potential economic benefits, Tamim also emphasized the importance of boosting tourism, taking cues from El Salvador’s successful BTC integration to attract global interest.

While official confirmation of Iraq’s Bitcoin mining plans is yet to come, the parallels drawn by Kerr hint at a global trend of countries incorporating BTC into their economic strategies to address environmental and financial challenges simultaneously.

With six countries already engaged in nation-state BTC mining, including El Salvador, Bhutan, Russia, the UAE, Oman, and Ethiopia, Iraq could be next in line to join the league. The integration of Bitcoin into national economies offers a promising opportunity for countries seeking to innovate and diversify their economic landscape.

At the latest update, Bitcoin is trading at $63,353.
