Get the latest scoop on Germany’s online spending habits! Last year, online product expenditures took a hit, dropping by 11.8% to 79.7 billion euros. This data comes straight from the Bundesverband E-Commerce und Versandhandel Deutschland (bevh), and they’re calling it the “Ecommerce turnover reaches a low point”.
Why the dip, you ask? Well, it seems that German consumers were cutting back on their online shopping habits, especially when it came to books, computers, jewelry, shoes, and clothing. But wait, there’s more – online revenue share in product sales also dropped from 11.8% to 10.2%. Looks like physical retailers had the upper hand post-corona.
But wait, there’s hope!
While the numbers took a nosedive in the first quarter of 2023, things started looking up by the fourth quarter. And now, bevh expects a stabilization and growth resumption in online expenditures. In fact, they’re predicting a 2.0% growth for ecommerce in Germany this year. Could this be a comeback for online shopping?
