Exciting news from the world of second-hand fashion! Vinted, the popular fashion platform, has recently acquired Danish competitor Trendsales to strengthen its presence in the Nordic region. This strategic move comes on the heels of Vinted’s decision to shut down its luxury platform, Rebelle, earlier this year.
The recommerce market in Europe is on the rise, with a 12.3 percent share compared to the overall ecommerce market. In a bold move in 2022, Vinted acquired Rebelle, a German competitor specializing in luxury fashion. With the termination of Rebelle, Vinted is now inviting its members to explore luxury offerings on its own platform.
Expanding Presence in Denmark
Last year, Vinted made its mark in Denmark with a successful launch. Now, with the acquisition of Trendsales, Denmark’s largest second-hand marketplace, Vinted aims to solidify its foothold in the country. The takeover will allow Vinted to leverage Trendsales’ regional expertise, though the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed.
‘The Danish appetite for second-hand clothing continues to grow.’
Adam Jay, CEO of Vinted Marketplace, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “The Danish appetite for second-hand clothing continues to grow, and Trendsales has been instrumental in that growth. We are thrilled to join forces with Trendsales and further enhance the second-hand community in Denmark.”
Unlocking New Opportunities
Mads Aaroe Mathiesen, CEO of Trendsales, sees immense potential in joining forces with Vinted, saying, “Vinted’s commitment to making second-hand the first choice in Europe presents exciting opportunities on a larger scale. I look forward to collaborating with the Vinted team and embracing the exciting journey ahead.”
